Description
The ZiL-131 was the main all-road Soviet Army truck of the 1970s and 1980s. Its serial production began in 1967 and featured high reliability and all-road ability. The basic model was used mainly as personnel transport or as a 5-ton capacity cargo truck. These trucks were supplied to Warsaw Pact countries and also to many Asian and African countries.
There were many ZiL-131 modifications for the Soviet Army and civilian use. One of them was the recovery truck MTO-AT. From 1967 to 1990, around 1,000,000 trucks were manufactured. The Improved model ZiL-131N was produced from 1986, and production later moved to the Ural Automotive Plant (from the original ZiL plant). A few trucks with different special purposes are still being produced in the present day.
