The Messerschmitt Bf-109 F2 entered the Luftwaffe in 1941. It had improved aerodynamics and its armament consisted of a 15mm high speed cannon MG 151 with a fire rate of 950 rounds per minute with electric driven recharging. A tropical version of the F-2 with additional air filters was introduced for war areas where dusty airfields were common: the North African theatre and the Southern section of the Eastern front.
