The A6M Zero was a long-range fighter aircraft operated by the Imperial Japanese Air Service. During the early stages of the Second World War, the Zero earned a legendary reputation as a superior dogfighter, dominating the skies until around 1943. Designed for range and performance, the aircraft prioritised agility over durability and pilot protection. This design choice, while effective initially, ultimately contributed to high pilot casualties and led to an Allied advantage later in the war.
