Description
In the beginning of the 1930s, there was a desire for a high-speed bomber that could outpace contemporary fighter planes. One plane to come to fruition from this desire was the twin-engine bomber Do 17 designed and produced by German company Dornier Flugzeugwerke. Since the beginning of 1939, they produced Do 17Z planes with new “Waffenkopf” type nose part and air-cooled Bramo 323 Fafnir engines. Nine Do 17Z-10 Kauz 11 night fighters were produced in 1940 with Spanner-Anlage infrared night vision devices installed. They served in the night fighter unit 11/ NJG 1 up to the beginning of 1941.
