Description

The Focke-Wulf Fw 189А Uhu (“Eagle Owl”) was а German twin-engine twin-boom three-seat tactical reconnaissance and army cooperation aircraft. It entered Luftwaffe service in 1940 and was produced until the middle of 1944. In total, 845 serial aircraft were produced. The modification Fw 198A-2 included a defensive armament of two MG 81Z machine guns. Called the “Flying Eye” by the Germans, the Fw 189A was used extensively on the Eastern Front with great success. The Russian nickname was for the plane was “Rama” (“Frame”), referring to the distinctive shape of the tailbooms.
