The Ilyushin IL-2 one of the best known Soviet ground attack aircraft of WWII. During WWII, over 36,000 planes were built, which makes it one of the most produced military aircraft. Due to its heavy armour, it was difficult to shoot down – the troops called it “Flying Tank”. The double-seater was introduced in 1943, also known under the name IL-2M.
