The Ryan PT-22 Recruit is a beautifully detailed, large-scale replica of one of aviation’s most recognisable open-cockpit trainers. With a wingspan of 2.3m (90″), this model is designed for intermediate to advanced pilots looking for smooth handling, classic scale lines, and immersive flying.

Constructed from lightweight balsa and plywood, this ARTF model comes mostly pre-built with a factory-painted fibreglass cowl, scale cockpit, struts, pilot figure, and functioning flaps. Designed for 3045cc petrol engines or high-power electric conversion, it offers predictable and stable flight characteristics ideal for scale cruising, touch-and-gos, or relaxed aerobatics.

About the original:
The Ryan PT-22 Recruit was a military trainer aircraft used by the United States Army Air Corps during the early 1940s. Known for its unique inline engine, wire-braced wings, and open cockpit, it served as a primary trainer for thousands of WWII pilots.
